Feeling Stressed?
Help Manage it by Adding These Tools to Your Toolbox

Anxious? Overwhelmed and don’t know WTF to do about it?

I help my clients manage their stress.

In addition to regularly programmed exercise, using breathwork to help aid in stress management has been found to be an effective tool for not only myself, but for my clients as well.

I’m a huge fan of breathwork, as I've found it to be an extremely useful tool when I'm feeling overwhelmed, anxious, over-stimulated, or a combination of the three.

Focusing on your breath allows you to take a pause from everything going on around you for a moment of clarity.

One of my favorite breathing techniques is boxed breathing:

  • 4 second inhale
  • 4 second hold
  • 4 second exhale
  • 4 second hold

You can start slowly and work your way up in time, I do about 8-10 seconds for each, but I've found it to be extremely useful when I need to take a moment to pause and regroup.

In James Nestor’s book: Breath, he explains the benefits of nostril breathing and its unexpected role in regulating heart rate, lowering blood pressure, easing digestion, and even having an involvement with mental clarity and mood.

Interestingly enough, he describes each nostril having separate functions.

Breathing through your right nostril will increase circulation, blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, and alertness.

-Think of this as your “ready for action” nostril.

Breathing through your left nostril will do the opposite and lower blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, ease digestion, and reduce anxiety.

-Think of this as your “time to chill” nostril.

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could manipulate your breathing to benefit your situation?

You can!

For the next 2 minutes, try breathing only through your left nostril.

Feel more relaxed? Sweet!

Everyone has stress; you just have to know how to manage it.

Having a healthy diet and regular training plan are the best ways to manage your stress, but it helps to have a few extra tools in your toolbox when you need them.

Remember these tips next time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed and send them to a friend who could use them too!

You give, and they give back. You give a little more, and you get back even more. What if I told you that working out and making changes to your diet could make you feel better throughout the day and maybe even help you sleep better at night? Fitness has so much more to offer than...

Morgan Rebernik CPT, Online Coach January 12th, 2026 Results: The Best Way to Get Them, and What Makes for a Successful Plan or Program ↓ I figured since we’re 2 weeks into January, it’s a perfect time to talk about goals (or resolutions), and what makes for the best plan or program. The best plan is the one that you can stick to. There is no perfect program or plan that’s going to get you the results you’re looking for if it can’t be maintained, or if you’re not willing to track and record...
